Architectural Photography

When asked at school “what her daddy did”, she didn’t hesitate and answered spot on: “He photographs beautiful houses”. And that says it all! Since João Morgado began his career as an architectural photographer in 2012, more than a thousand shoots have come through his lens, covering the whole of Portugal, including the islands, as well as countries such as Brazil, the USA, Mexico, Italy, France and Kuwait, among others.

In 2020, the Muse Design Awards named him best architectural photographer. A merit already recognised in 2014, when he won the ARCAID Awards in the United Kingdom in the “Sense of Place” category, with his photograph of the Leça Swimming Pools in Leça da Palmeira (Matosinhos), by architect Siza Vieira. The following year, in New York, he was ranked among the ten best architectural photographers in the world.

His work is regularly featured in specialist publications such as Architectural Digest, Casa Bella, Wallpaper, Azure and id+C.

He is the co-founder of the Loop Design Awards, an award created in 2020 that has already become an international reference in Architecture and Design.

He often says that “for as long as he can remember” he wanted to be an architect. A 19.9 in the national Descriptive Geometry exam earned him a place at ISCTE in Lisbon, where he completed a master’s degree in Architecture.

But it was during his professional internship in Maastricht, the Netherlands, in 2009, that architect Wiel Arets unintentionally discovered a talent he has never abandoned since…
